1997 Cherokee Front Driveshaft Rebuild.

I recently rebuilt my front driveshaft with all new U-Joints, Centering Joint and seals. This is what I found out.

The Shaft requires (3) U-Joints, (1) in the front by the axle and (2) in the double cardon joint that connects to the transfer case. There is a single C.V. centering joint in the middle of the double cardon joint that requires a new seal that is a pain to get/find. I have listed below all the possible part #'s for everthing you might need other than tools and some grease.

I used Neapco Brute Force U-Joints all around, the Spicer Centering Joint and a Spicer Slinger/Seal. You have to press out the U-Joints with either a press or my low-tech approach some sockets, a vise and a hammer. Then install the new ones. Be sure to scribe the yoke/s so that you get em all back on in the line they were orginally in.

Parts:

This is specific to my 1997 Shaft however I would suspect a majority of this info is for all.

(3) U-Joints:
Spicer # 1310
Neapco # 1-0153
Neapco Brute Force # 1-0153BF
Rockford Driveline # K153

(1) Centering Yoke (Non-Greasable):
Spicer # 211544X
Neapco # 7-0082NG
Rockford Driveline # R2-21-1544

(1) Centering Yoke (Greasable):
Spicer # 211355X
Neapco # 7-0082
Rockford Driveline # R2-21-1355

(1) Slinger/Seal (for non-greasable yoke)
Spicer # 2-86-418

The greasable and non-Greasable centering yoke is not interchangeable without changing out the ball joint shaft. (ie.. cutting off one and welding on anther) and if you wanted to do that I would advise buying a whole new shaft and keeping the old one as a spare.
