Cobra 75WXST CB Radio

I purchased my Cobra CB off of Ebay where I found an individual that was selling them for $75 ea. brand NEW. You can really find great deals on Ebay if you are patient and know exactly what you are looking for.

The installation of this radio is pretty simple. The Cobra 75WXST is a two piece all in one unit CB that served my purposes perfectly.. I wanted a radio I could take out when not in use and leave no trace of. I also did not want to put any holes in the dash or fill up my center console.

My 2000 Wrangler had a hot switched wire located behind the glove box that I used to power the CB. Placing the Box that houses the Antennae Connection and power was the hardest part. I removed the center console and then bolted the 2" box to the jeeps floor where it would be concealed under the center console around the Airbag Cutoff switch. The Cable that attaches to the hand set sticks out on the passenger side of the center console and can be stuffed behind the airbag cutoff switch wthn not in use.

I started this project purchasing an 18" rubber ducky type antennae with magnet mount that I had mounted to the front of my Jeep, big mistake, I got very little reception and even poorer transmission. After some more researceh, I purchased a CB Antennae mount from Rocky Road Outfitters for the passenger side (CJ-7) and then trimmed it to fit around the tailgate hinges. I then painted it 3x with Black SemiGloss RustOleum. The Antennae I used is a Firestick Firefly 3 foot model. I also purchased a Firestick FireRing Cable. To route the cable I drilled a 1/4" hole in the side of the taillamp and using a rubber grommet ran the cable through the taillight housing and into the Jeep wheelwell. I then found a rubber grommet plugging a hole on the passager side interior wheel well that was under the carpet. Cutting a small hole in the grommet I ran the cable through, replacing the grommet, and then ran to the front of the Jeep.

I used a SWR meter to adjust the SWR on the antennae and then hooked everything together. After testing I found this to be a highly capable CB with about a 5 mile range on open ground and about a 2 mile range in the hills.
